People love GTA games not just for the story, but for the freedom and the vehicles play a huge role in that. So it’s only natural to ask questions like:
What will GTA 6 cars be like? Which vehicles are coming back? Will we see real-life cars or Rockstar-style versions? And most importantly, how will they drive arcade style like GTA 5 or heavier like GTA 4?

Based on trailers, leaks, and solid analysis, here’s everything we currently know about GTA 6 vehicles, including cars, driving physics, damage, and customization.

Returning Vehicles in GTA 6

There are some vehicles Rockstar just can’t let go of, and they show up in almost every GTA game.

Take Banshee, for example. It’s been around since GTA 3, and yes, it’s back again in GTA 6.

In Trailer 2, we also spotted the 4×4 vehicle that already exists in GTA Online. Trailer 1 showed the classic Cheetah, a car that’s been part of the franchise since GTA 3. Its GTA 6 design looks inspired by the Ferrari Testarossa and 512 BB.

Fan-favorite Infernus is returning too, although we’ve only seen it briefly so far. The Sultan, a four-door classic, is also confirmed.

On top of that, there are tons of returning sports cars, muscle cars, supercars, SUVs, off-road vehicles, vans, and more. Many of these vehicles already exist in GTA Online and yes, you can technically drive some GTA 6-style cars there right now, though they’re clearly downgraded versions. How Many Vehicles Will GTA 6 Have?

Alongside returning cars, GTA 6 is bringing a massive number of new vehicles.

According to some analyses, GTA 6 could feature up to 985 vehicles, which would be insane for an open-world game. To put that into perspective:

GTA San Andreas had around 192 vehicles
GTA 4 (including DLCs) had about 177
GTA 5 launched with roughly 292 vehicles

GTA Online later pushed that number to around 782, but still didn’t cross the 1,000 mark.

Some people believe GTA 6 will only launch with 400–500 vehicles, which is fair. But if GTA 6 Online runs for 10 years like GTA 5 did, crossing 1,000 vehicles feels very possible.

Will GTA 6 Have Real-Life Cars?

This question always comes up.

GTA 6 cars are heavily inspired by real-life vehicles, but Rockstar avoids using real brand names. Ferrari becomes something else, Porsche becomes Pfister, Mercedes becomes Benefactor.

There are two big reasons for this:

Rockstar gets total creative freedom
Real brands don’t want their cars damaged, destroyed, or used to run over pedestrians

And that same approach is being followed in GTA 6. None of the trailers, leaks, or screenshots show officially licensed cars.

PM700, which looks inspired by the Chrysler 300
Criado, a two-wheeler inspired by multiple real bikes
Tulip Muscle, seemingly inspired by a 1972 Chevrolet-style sports sedan
Yarra Imler Alex, based on the sixth-generation Chevrolet Impala
Carbonara, resembling Aston Martin V12 Zagato and Ferrari California
Gatekeeper, inspired by the Porsche 718

There are plenty more real-life inspired GTA 6 cars visible already and honestly, the designs look amazing.

Vehicle Scaling and Visual Quality

One thing that stands out immediately is vehicle scaling.

Cars in GTA 6 actually look the right size. Their proportions feel realistic instead of exaggerated. If you compare vehicles like the Brine 4×4 from GTA Online with its GTA 6 version, the difference is obvious.

The GTA 6 version looks wider, more grounded, and closer to a true 1:1 scale. Wheel arches are subtler, body panels feel more natural, and the overall look is far more authentic.

Vehicle interiors are getting a huge upgrade.

From what we’ve seen:

High-quality steering wheels
Detailed dashboards and door panels
Functional gauges and touchscreens
Real-time mirrors that actually work

This is huge, especially for first-person driving, which was nearly impossible in GTA 5 due to blurry mirrors.

There’s even evidence of seat adjustment, meaning you can move your seat forward or backward like in real life.

Leaks from 2022 showed a Lamborghini Urus-style interior with insane detail pedals, mirrors, steering adjustments the works. One thing is clear: first-person driving in GTA 6 will feel much better.

Now for the big question: GTA 4 or GTA 5 style driving? The answer seems to be neither. GTA 6 driving physics appear to sit somewhere in the middle better than both.

Cars will have realistic weight transfer. When you turn, the suspension compresses naturally instead of staying stiff like in GTA 5 or exaggerated like GTA 4. Vehicles will react properly to bumps, slopes, and uneven terrain.

Weight will also matter. Passengers, armor, or cargo in the trunk will affect how the car handles, including how the rear suspension behaves.

Overall, the physics look far more refined and realistic without turning the game into a full simulator.

Vehicle Damage and Accidents

Vehicle damage is going to be next-level. GTA 6 is being developed on RAGE 9, which allows for far more detailed vehicle models. That means:

Cars bend and deform realistically
Collisions look brutal
Vehicles can even split apart in extreme crashes

We’ve seen scenes where fuel leaks realistically, wheels bend at odd angles, and suspensions break independently. NPCs respond to accidents, emergency vehicles arrive, and cleanup crews handle wrecks dynamically. Accidents will feel heavy and impactful something GTA has never done this well before.

Dealerships and Buying Cars

With so many vehicles, dealerships make total sense.

Leaks showed an unnamed auto shop that Jason visits, hinting at a full dealership system. There’s also hope for something like Sunshine Autos, where importing and exporting cars could return.

This would make buying vehicles much more structured instead of randomly stealing everything off the street.

Passenger Mode and Dual Protagonists

Another interesting feature is the ability to sit as a passenger while someone else drives.

Rockstar has already done this before, and with two protagonists in GTA 6, it feels like the perfect time to bring it back. This opens up possibilities like shooting, interacting, or focusing on story moments while your partner drives.

Car Customization in GTA 6

Customization is going all-in.

Expected options include:

Paints and finishes
Body kits
Wheels and tires
Headlights and windows
Engine and turbo tuning
Number plate customization

Customization will also affect driving performance, not just visuals.

Different number plates have already been spotted, including Vice City, Liberty City, and more. Door panels even look interchangeable, suggesting deep interior customization.
