Call of Duty is without a doubt my most played gaming franchise of all time. I have been playing for as long as I can remember, starting as a kid with Call of Duty 2: Big Red 1, and I have not missed a single release since. Because I’ve spent so many years on this series, I decided to see all the Call of Duty games ranked from the bottom to the top.
Table of Contents
In this ranking, I am looking at the total package. That includes the campaign, the multiplayer, Zombies, and any unique extra content that makes a title stand out. This list focuses strictly on the mainline titles, so you will not find mobile games or console exclusive spin-offs like Finest Hour here.
Remember that these are just my opinions. Whether your favorite is at the top or the bottom, let’s get into the rankings.
The D Tier: The Bottom of the Barrel
20. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

This game just missed the mark in every regard. It does not even feel like a Call of Duty game. Playing as futuristic robots with jetpacks and abilities felt like a step too far into experimental territory. For me, it just missed the mark in every single regard. So This Call of Duty games ranked 20
19. Modern Warfare 3 (2023)

Not to be confused with the 2011 classic. The campaign felt like a thrown together DLC with Open Combat Missions that played more like Warzone than a classic COD story. While I love the maps because they are remakes of the 2009 version, this is the worst possible state to play them in. I played this for three days, hit a crane shot, and never touched it again. So This Call of Duty games ranked 19.
18. Call of Duty: Vanguard

Sledgehammer tried to take us back to the World War II period, but it felt like a massive step backwards. The campaign was short and forgettable, and the story was way too far off the path for me. Zombies felt rushed and the multiplayer maps had way too many destructible elements. This is the definition of yearly cycle slop. So This Call of Duty games ranked 18.
17. Modern Warfare 2 (2022)

This game had big shoes to fill after the 2019 reboot and it fell short in every regard except the campaign. The multiplayer experience was hindered because the developers nerfed the movement and speed. Also, the menus are a literal cluster of panels. The only redeeming quality was the insane amount of glitches at launch that made the game fun and laughable. So This Call of Duty games ranked 17.
The C Tier: Solid but Lacking Depth
16. Black Ops 6

The newest kid on the block had a lot of promise with omnidirectional movement. While the movement is refreshing, the game feels like it could have just been an update for Cold War. I completely lost interest after First Prestige and Zombies did not catch my attention at all. So This Call of Duty games ranked 16.
15. Call of Duty 2

A launch title for the Xbox 360. This campaign was special to me because I was learning about World War II in school and then coming home to run through D-Day missions. It helped make Call of Duty a household name, but it lacks a lot of depth compared to later games, so I cannot put it any higher. So This Call of Duty games ranked 15.
14. Call of Duty 3

Treyarch’s first crack at the series felt like Call of Duty 2.5. It introduced the sprint mechanic which helped speed up the pacing, but the overall experience was still very bare bones. So This Call of Duty games ranked 14.
13. Black Ops 4

A bold swing that ditched the campaign for Blackout. While Blackout was better than Warzone in my opinion, the lack of a story left the game feeling hollow. Zombies also got stale faster than any version I had played before it. So This Call of Duty games ranked 13.
12. Black Ops Cold War

This was a good game. Everyone personally put a lot of time into this title and enjoyed playing a lot. The multiplayer was snappy and responsive, and all the weapons felt really good to use. So This Call of Duty games ranked 12.
11. Call of Duty: WWII

A successful return to the series roots. The campaign was emotional and enjoyable, and the multiplayer brought back the 25 killstreak nuke called the V2 Rocket. It was a great middle of the pack title that served its purpose well. So This Call of Duty games ranked 11.
The B Tier: The Top 10
10. Black Ops 3

While the campaign was wild and confusing, Zombies was the biggest highlight. It is widely considered the best Zombies game in the series. The jetpack movement felt miles better and way more balanced than what came before it. So This Call of Duty games ranked 10.
9. Advanced Warfare

AW introduced jetpacks and exo suits, which was a breath of fresh air to me. The campaign was an over the top blockbuster. Even though multiplayer had luck to win weapons, I actually really liked Exo Zombies. It was a fun experiment that did not fully land for everyone, but I enjoyed it. So i rank it 9.
8. Call of Duty: Ghosts

A divisive one. Some fans call it a bland misstep, but I love the multiplayer. The maps were good and the Time to Kill being faster was a nice change of pace. Plus, the Ripper was absolutely busted. It felt like another Call of Duty on autopilot for many, but I am the odd one out who really had fun with it. So This Call of Duty games ranked 8.
The A Tier: The Bangers
7. Modern Warfare (2019)

A straight up banger of a reboot that brought the franchise back to its glory days. Infinity Ward crushed it with a realistic, gritty campaign and the weapon armory allowed for some truly bizarre builds. This is the only time the series has captured lightning in a bottle for a second time. So Modern Warfare (2019) is ranked 7.
6. Call of Duty: World at War

The game where Treyarch found its footing. It brought us Zombies and a brutal World War II campaign. The multiplayer was gritty and introduced one of my favorite modes ever, War. It is a classic experience that holds up to this day. So This Call of Duty games ranked 6.
5. Modern Warfare 3 (2011)

The original MW3 wrapped up the trilogy with a bang. It added bangers like Infected and Drop Zone to the game pool. I have thousands of hours in Infected just playing with the boys. It also added the 2v2 and 3v3 playlists which were super fun to queue into. So This Call of Duty games ranked 5.
4. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

When looking at all Call of Duty games ranked, this one changed everything. It kicked off a legendary trilogy and introduced characters like Captain Price and Soap. The mission All Ghillied Up is still one of the best levels in all of gaming. It was peak entertainment for a 9 year old like me. So This Call of Duty games ranked 4.
The S Tier: The Icons
3. Black Ops 1

The mind bending story of Alex Mason and the numbers is a fan favorite. Multiplayer introduced the currency system and wager matches where you could actually risk your points. Zombies got exponentially better with maps like Kino, Five, and Moon. This game was loaded with things to discover. So This one of iconic Call of Duty games ranked 3.
2. Black Ops 2

A masterpiece. It had a blockbuster campaign with alternative endings depending on your decisions. We also got the Pick 10 system which revolutionized multiplayer loadouts. It was the blueprint that Call of Duty should have followed for every game after. So This is holding title at no 2 most iconic COD Game.
1. Modern Warfare 2 (2009)

The undisputed king. Even now in 2026, the community love for this game burns bright. Fans are still making ground up remasters because they love it so much. Between legendary maps like Terminal and Highrise and the thrill of being one kill off a nuke, this match was unforgettable. Modern Warfare 2 is not just a game. It is a legend that defined a generation. That’s why its #1 Call of duty game released ever.
